Meet Romain, Master Sommelier.
With unwavering determination, Romain has woven his professional web, marking each stage of his journey with boldness and finesse. After solid studies in cuisine and catering, he honed his craft with a special mention in sommellerie. His path, strewn with nuggets of experience in prestigious establishments affiliated to Relais & Châteaux, has taken him from the sun-drenched vineyards of the Côte d'Azur to the storied lands of the Dordogne. His adventurous spirit has even taken him over seas, whether to New Zealand or the glittering Orlando of the USA, where he worked for Bocuse.
In September 2023, Romain has chosen to re-embrace the world of haute gastronomy by joining Château de Maubreuil. As sommelier, he is the essential partner of François Kerdalhé, head of the dining room, and is actively involved in selections and tastings. His quest? To enhance the flavors of our brigade's cuisine by orchestrating exquisitely precise food and wine pairings, and by providing remarkably accurate advice and recommendations.
Romain's strength lies in the dynamic exchange of ideas and mutual learning within a young, dynamic team. "Every stone added to the edifice enriches our collective momentum, and it's this harmony that weaves our excellence," he asserts. In June 2023, Romain brilliantly organized a general meeting as vice-president of the Association des Sommeliers de Bretagne, a major event that Château de Maubreuil was honored to host.
Appreciated for his serenity, humor and adaptability, Romain is often hailed as the Château's "quiet force". These qualities, combined with his expertise in sommellerie, make him an emblematic and respected figure.
Off-duty, Romain enjoys life, constantly on the lookout for new culinary adventures, enriching travels and special moments in the company of family and friends. His mother, a privileged witness to his progress, makes no secret of her pride at seeing her once reserved son blossom to his full potential.
One incident, as funny as it was unexpected, perfectly illustrates Romain's ability to combine professionalism and charm: during a service, an unfortunate faux pas saw a tray of champagne flutes spill onto a lady celebrating her ninetieth birthday. Upon his apology, she offered him a knowing smile, assuring him that this impromptu baptism was a welcome first in 90 years.
It's in the refined environment of Château de Maubreuil, surrounded by his dedicated colleagues and lulled by the beauty of the chapel, that Romain finds his daily inspiration. With his unwavering commitment and passion for sommellerie, he continues to weave his tale, enriching the Château de Maubreuil oenological experience day by day.
