The hens of Maubreuil
In the continuity of our permacultural approach, our teams have been working on the elaboration and the construction of a monumental aviary which takes place at the very back of the domain. After several months of work, we are delighted to see this project come to fruition and to welcome our first gallinaceans.
With a surface of about 1,000 m2, the aviary currently houses twenty-five hens, five roosters and two turkeys. Every day, Clément, our gardener, goes to collect the precious green, blue, white or brown sesame: the eggs. Thus harvested, they will supply the kitchens of the restaurant La Table du Marquis, in short circuit, to delight the taste buds of the visitors, from breakfast to dinner. This permaculture project is also part of a logic of reducing food waste from the kitchens. The waste is recycled to provide the chickens with a varied diet. Finally, the poultry manure (all of the poultry's excrement) will be mixed, once dried, with the soil and the compost thus generated will enrich and fertilize the soil of the garden and the vegetable garden, in order to improve the impact on the environment in more than one way.
The aviary consists of a huge wooden structure burned according to the Japanese technique, Yakisugi, covered with a net, two wooden huts housing the nesting boxes and a large space with a water point where the hens are free to come and go throughout the day and to exercise serenely.
While strolling through the gardens of the five-star hotel, approach the aviary and enjoy the diversity of our feathered guests. We have chosen both laying hens such as the Sussex and ornamental hens such as the massive and fluffy Cochin hen, covered with feathers from beak to tarsus, the Dutch hen and the Padua hen, both with a charming little crest, or the Wyandotte hen, original with her lace-like plumage
This small family will soon grow with the arrival of new hens and other gallinaceous (peacock, ducks, etc..).
